Our Story…

In 2012, Tom and Patty Williams were working as government contractors in demanding careers while raising two young children, one of whom has significant special needs. As the pace of work intensified, they began to recognize the need for a more sustainable balance—one that allowed them to be present as a family while doing meaningful work.
The solution became
Aker Fiber Farm.
While knitting one evening, Patty reflected on her early experiences processing wool with her aunt and crocheting alongside her mother. Those memories, paired with a long-standing love of fiber, led her back to wool—specifically Corriedale fleece, prized for its softness, versatility, and strength. She began spinning, and the first yarns produced came from the very flock that remains with the farm today.
Our first yarns were produced from the same flock we continue to raise today. Hand-spun and hand-dyed, Patty dedicated her free time to preparing fibers and traveling with Tom to fiber shows. Together, they made the decision to relocate their family to New Hampshire—bringing the flock with them.
Today, Aker Fiber Farm is home to both family and sheep in Enfield Center, New Hampshire. Surrounded by fields, sheep flock, and flax. Tom and Patty continue to care for the land and animals while teaching others how to transform farm-grown fibers into yarn. Their work is rooted in stewardship, education, and a deep respect for the full journey from field to fiber.
